National Day of the Deployed October 26
In 2006, former governor of North Dakota, John Hoeven, was approached by a constituent, Shelle Michaels Aberle, to have a day that honored the deployed. The inspiration was her cousin, LTC David Hosna, who at the time was deployed to Iraq. Former Governor John Hoeven made a proclamation that October 26th, David Hosna’s birthday, would be recognized as Day of the Deployed.
By 2011, Congress had transformed North Dakota’s Day of the Deployed into a national day of proclamation to honor deployed troops and their families.
If would like to honor those who have been deployed, post a picture or words of encouragement on social media and include the hashtag #DayOfTheDeployed.
