250 Years of Freedom. Generations of Service.
For nearly 250 years, the men and women of the United States Armed Forces have defended our nation’s freedoms with courage and sacrifice. The nation’s oldest military branches—the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps—were established in 1775, before the Declaration of Independence was signed. Since then, millions of Americans have served in uniform across every generation, during times of war and peace, answering the call to protect our country and the ideals on which it was founded. Their service has shaped our nation’s history, while their families have shared in the sacrifices that military service often requires.
On July 4, 2026, the United States will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, also known as the Semiquincentennial. This historic milestone celebrates the nation’s founding and invites Americans to reflect on the people and events that have preserved our freedoms over the past two and a half centuries. It is also an opportunity to recognize the generations of Veterans, active-duty service members, and military families whose dedication has helped shape our nation’s history.
Veterans Care Coordination (VCC) is dedicated to honoring the men and women whose service has helped preserve our freedoms, which is at the core of our mission. This summer, VCC employees are coming together to share the stories of the Veterans and active-duty service members who have influenced their lives. Through our Heroes Among Us Wall of Honor, we are recognizing the parents, grandparents, spouses, children, siblings, and other loved ones whose service, sacrifice, and values continue to inspire us. For many of us, these family legacies are a significant part of why we are passionate about assisting Veterans and surviving spouses every day.
Together, these stories represent generations of military service spanning World War II through today’s armed forces. They reflect a wide range of experiences and military branches, but they all share common values—service, sacrifice, courage, and commitment.
While every story is unique, many reveal the lasting impact military service has on families. For some employees, those family legacies inspired careers dedicated to serving Veterans. For others, they are daily reminders of the resilience, humility, and selflessness demonstrated by those who wore the uniform.
At VCC, our mission is making it easier for Veterans and surviving spouses to age safely and comfortably at home. Every day, we have the privilege of helping those who served. The Heroes Among Us Wall of Honor serves as a reminder that our work is personal. Behind many of our employees is a Veteran or service member whose example continues to shape their lives and strengthen their commitment to those we serve.
As we reflect on our nation’s history and look ahead to America’s 250th anniversary, we proudly honor the heroes whose service continues to inspire our mission. We are grateful to every Veteran, active-duty service member, military family, and surviving spouse for their dedication, sacrifice, and commitment to our country.
